George Halas is a name every Chicago Bears fan will recognize. And though he died in 1983, Papa Bear’s grandson Patrick McCaskey is traveling Bears country to keep his story alive.
“It’s something that I enjoy doing. I’m thrilled to be here tonight and I really appreciate opportunities to do other speaking engagements,” said McCaskey, who currently works as the Vice President of Special Projects for the Bears.
McCaskey’s presentation at the 95th Street Library told stories from his grandfather’s life before founding the Bears, the early years of the NFL, and his own experiences growing up around the team.
After his speech, he opened up the floor to questions ranging from what he thinks of the national anthem protests to how active his mother, Virginia McCaskey, is as principal owner of the Bears at 95 years old.
“She edited four drafts of my remembrance of her,” joked McCaskey.
The presentation ended with McCaskey taking photos and chatting with some of the fans.
