Lawmakers Hold Town Hall in Naperville

Local state lawmakers recently held an emergency town hall.

State Senator Michael Connelly and State Representative Grant Wehrli spoke to dozens of residents at Naperville City Hall about the Illinois budget impasse.

The senate did approve a version of a budget, however that legislation didn’t make it through the house before the legislative session adjourned; something Representative Wehrli partially attributes to a breakdown in communication across party lines.

“So the senate did take some tough votes, they did pass that over to us, where we proceeded to only pass two of those bills and the rest we never even got to talk about. So it’s hard to compromise when the discussions aren’t even happening,” said Representative Wehrli.

Both lawmakers agree a special session is needed to pass a budget as soon as possible.

The duo also discussed the need for reform in funding Medicaid, schools and pensions.

Attendees had a chance to ask questions and get feedback from the representatives.
