With northern Illinois flood victims still reeling from the disaster; Mesón Sabika held a fundraiser to help those in need.
During the entire day of the fundraiser, 100 percent of the tapas restaurant’s sales were donated to American Red Cross of Chicago.
“The Red Cross is there immediately when a disaster happens. We go to cover everyone’s basic needs such as food and shelter. But we’re actually there for the long haul to assist people with their long-term recovery,” said Stephanie Patton, Special Events Coordinator with the Red Cross of Chicago. “We’ll be opening case work to make sure people have everything they need to help with their long term recovery from the disaster.”
And for those relief efforts, Mesón Sabika raised $13,552 in just one day – that includes $12,452 from the restaurant and $1,100 from personal donors.
“We’ve been working with the Red Cross for a very long time. It’s one of those organizations that we trust that most of the dollars they collect goes to those in need, and they do a lot of work locally and internationally,” said Hossein Jamali, owner of Mesón Sabika.
Red Cross of Chicago has already supported over 1,000 flood-affected families by opening six shelters and feeding over 13,000 snacks and meals.
