Council also approved a plan to bring “micro-apartments” to East Ogden Avenue.

Regency Inn Site

The site currently occupied by the Regency Inn will soon house a 112-unit apartment building. Council voted unanimously to rezone the property at 1350 E. Ogden Avenue to allow the new development.

Due to the size of the units, about 300 square feet on average, rents in the apartment complex are expected to qualify as affordable housing.

Senior Friendly

Co-chair of the Naperville Senior Task Force Jim Hill spoke in support of the project at the meeting, saying it gives local seniors an affordable option to downsize to while still living in town.

“One of the issues that always comes up is it’s a struggle to find housing in Naperville that fits their budget, that’s close to shopping, that’s close to entertainment, that’s accessible, that offers single-story living. And this development offers all of that,” Hill said.

The petitioner, Michael Zaransky also spoke at the meeting and said they plan to waive the application fees for those 55 and older, and provide seniors with a 30-day advance-viewing window when micro-apartments become available.

Construction is expected to start in 2020.
