The City of Naperville and members of the Riverwalk Commission have their first snapshot of the work that needs to be addressed on Moser Tower.
“The assessment found that we have some cracked and deteriorated concrete, we also have some early onset of corrosion of some of the steel members, and especially where they connect to the precast concrete units of the structure,” said Bill Novack, Director of Transportation, Engineering and Development with the City of Naperville.
In order to repair the tower, the commission has several construction options ranging from $1.5 million to compete a single phase repair, to $3.75 million to enclose the lower portion of the tower for better protection from the elements.
Another option is simple maintenance just to keep it operational or ultimately decommission it if it becomes too expensive to maintain.
The options will be discussed by the Riverwalk Commission who will make a recommendation to the City Council. They’ll make their final decision in late August or September.
“There’s nothing imminent that we see occurring but this is a great time to have a conversation with the Riverwalk Commission and the City Council about the direction we want to take the Carillon,” added Novack.
Any option of maintenance would be funded by the city and Riverwalk Commission through a capital improvement project.
