Here in Naperville, an overnight stay could mean some extra pay.
Airbnb will soon be collecting hotel taxes on behalf of its Naperville hosts and giving that revenue to the City of Naperville.
It’s a deal put together after Naperville City Council amended their ordinance in January to subject short-term rentals to the same taxes as hotels.
That’s good news for our city, which saw about 2,900 Airbnb travelers stay overnight in 2017.
Airbnb will start collecting the 5.5 percent Naperville hotel motel use tax starting August 1.
Naperville is now the eighth city in Illinois with an Airbnb tax partnership.
