Racing into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit…runners and walkers alike gathered downtown this morning for the Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise’s St. Paddy’s Day 5k.

“Let’s hope it warms up a little,” said Hope Gonzalez, a runner in the 5K. “It’s not too bad though,” said her husband Victor, also a runner in the race.

Luckily, cold temperatures didn’t stop hundreds from participating in their green getups.

But the Irish jig didn’t stop there, with many continuing to celebrate at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

“We ended up running the race, we didn’t win, and now our kids are actually walking in the parade for the Naperville Patriots.”

“This is kind of a fun one, I don’t know, just everybody has fun,” said parade attendee Sue Freese.

Many Irish organizations based in and around Naperville showed off their skills through the downtown route.

Leaving many to have fun at the festivities and remember why they celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the first place.

“Because we’re Irish and we’re proud of it,” said Grace Signatur, a parade attendee.
