The DuPage County Board has given final approval to expand the system that allows remote monitoring of traffic operations and adjustments to traffic signals based on conditions.

In a recent vote, the county approved connecting the Division of Transportation Central Signal System with the City of Naperville’s system.

Currently the system includes 72 traffic signals and now will expand to 200.

Signals affected in Naperville will mostly be along 75th Street. The city’s current system already operates along Washington Street.

The project is expected to cost $4.5 million, mostly from federal funding, and construction is expected to begin next year.
