DUIs are on the decline in Naperville. The numbers were discussed at the most recent meeting of the Naperville Liquor Commission.
In 2016, there were a total of 295 DUIs in Naperville, averaging about 24 and a half per month.
So far this year, there have been 123, averaging 17 and a half per month.
Commissioners celebrated this reduction, citing an increased use of ridesharing programs as a possible reason.
“Ridesharing and the other forms of alternative transportation, I think it really has had an impact. Along with our rule changes, I think have had a significant impact. And boy, if you look at monthly, year-to-date, year over year, all of them are trending in the right direction,” said Mayor Steve Chirico.
Earlier in the meeting, Pam Davis was sworn in as the eighth member of the liquor commission. Davis recently retired after leading Edward-Elmhurst Health for 28 years.
The next liquor commission meeting will be on September 7.
