A late champion of the Riverwalk will now be memorialized on the jewel he helped create.
Cliff Preston lent both a voice and a set of very capable hands in creating the Riverwalk over 35 years ago. And now the Riverwalk Commission and the Riverwalk Foundation are remembering his contributions by enhancing the landscaping and installing a memorial stone at Farmer’s Plaza near the paddle boat quarry.
“Cliff was an avid fisherman from what I understand. And loved that area of the Riverwalk, saw families there constantly with a fishing pole catching the blue gill and loved seeing that kind of activity on the Riverwalk,” said Chairman of the Riverwalk Commission, Geoffrey Roehll. “So that became and instant area that the foundation was interested in funding a project in memory of Cliff.”
The Riverwalk Foundation will be fully funding the memorial, with the Naperville Park District helping with installation. Everything is expected to be complete by Memorial Day.
Preston died in June of 2016 at the age of 90.
