Pearls of the Past: NCC Science Center Groundbreaking

North Central College continues to grow with the opening of a new science center.

In May of 2015, college president Troy Hammond joined the board of trustees on Loomis Street for the center’s groundbreaking.  In spring of 2016, the construction reached a milestone, with a “topping off ceremony” where the final steel beam reading “a brilliant future” was placed, completing the building’s frame.

And now the Science Center is complete, with an official ribbon-cutting just a few weeks ago.  The 125,000 square-foot facility is home to more than 30 labs, 19 student gathering spaces, 15 classrooms, and a lecture hall.  The building allows NCC to bring all of its sciences- including neuroscience, biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, and psychology – under one roof.

While some classrooms and offices are being used now, the laboratories won’t be fully functional until this upcoming fall.
