Some local students are racing off into the engineering and technology field.

The RC Projects

Planes, boats, drones, and racecars are now zooming around thanks to these young engineers at Naperville North.

They showed off their RC, or remote control, projects, in a special Research & Design Showcase.

How They Were Built

“So they had to research how the electronics worked, how to program everything, how to connect the controllers and the receivers and the transmitters together,” said Jason Ryan, the R&D teacher. “And after they did all that they have to decide ‘well what are we going to build? How are we going to design it?’”

After deciding what to build, the students got to work. All semester long, their groups designed, built, and tested ideas using 3D printers, laser cutters, and an assortment of other tools and materials.

CTE

Their creations provided hands-on learning in the Career and Technical Education Department.

The catering class also provided the food at the event, to tie the CTE courses together.
