It was a night of hellos and goodbyes at District 203’s board meeting.
Fielden Retires
They bid farewell to longtime board member Terry Fielden. He served 12 years on the board, before deciding not to run for reelection this spring.
“You guys stand in my mind as the best board I’ve ever served with, in the six boards that I have,” said Fielden. “This is the most mature board that I’ve encountered and the most thoughtful. Everybody here is student focused.”
Kozminski Steps In
Taking Fielden’s place is newly elected Joe Kozminski, a professor at Lewis University.
Kozminski took his oath to the board, alongside reelected members Janet Yang Rohr and Kristine Gericke. All will serve a four-year term.
Tentative Budget Presented
Also of note at the meeting – the board received a presentation on the 2019-2020 tentative budget.
Projections show $291.2 million in revenue and $283.4 million in expenditures.
The biggest non-staffing budget items include a $2 million multi-use turf field at Knoch Park, a $77,000 diversity and inclusion training for school leadership, and a $53,000 communication and engagement platform.
The District 203 tentative budget also calls for cuts to five administrative positions.
The board will continue to workshop the tentative budget before adopting it in June.
