Park District Renaming Southwest Community Park

The Naperville Park District has been referring to the future park in the southwest part of town as Southwest Community Park.

But at their latest meeting, they voted to open the 60-day consideration period to rename the space “Wolf’s Crossing Community Park.”

The name came as a suggestion from Ginny Wolf Chivas, a descendant of the Wolf family that settled the area.

“At age 24, my great-great-grandfather Amos traveled in 1846 from Lancaster, Pennsylvania,” said Wolf Chivas. “His relatives John, Leonard, Casper, and William Wolf joined him. They settled close to one another in the area that became known as Wolf’s Crossing.”

Any Naperville resident can attend a park board meeting within the next 60 days to suggest a different name for the park. The board will vote at the end of the consideration period.

It was also announced that the park district will receive a $400,000 Open Space Lands Acquisitions and Development grant to help fund Phase I of the project.
