A Naperville playground has a new look and some new activities for local kids.
Country Lakes Park is now reopened with playground renovations to allow inclusive play for kids of all abilities.
GameTime and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association sponsored the renovation.
Updates include a rubberized play surface and equipment that helps kids work together and improve balance. There are also transfer locations to allow children in wheelchairs to transfer out and onto swings and other equipment.
“I don’t know if you’ve ever seen a child get out of a wheelchair and get in swing,” said Sandy Gbur, Executive Director for the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association. “But it is exciting because that is a new feeling for them and not something they get to do too often. So that’s what this park can do for kids with disabilities.”
The Naperville Park District also has four more renovated playgrounds reopening in the next month.
