North Central College welcomed a renowned author, feminist and cultural critic during their annual Martin Luther King Jr. Week celebration.
Dr. Roxane Gay was featured as keynote speaker at the college’s Wentz Concert Hall. The New York Times bestselling author shared excerpts from some of her books, including “Bad Feminist” and “Difficult Women,” and answered questions from the audience. Her unique voice and pro-women message resonated with many in the crowd.
“I appreciate how multi-faceted she is as a writer,” said North Central College sophomore Upsana Barath. “She can write creative writing stories about social justice, but also just a lot of fictional stories that resonate well with me as a woman.”
Much of Gay’s work has focused on raising the profile of writers of color.
Gay is a contributing writer for the New York Times. Her new book, “Hunger: A Memoir Of (My) Body” comes out later this year.
