School may be over for the summer, but the learning continued over at Safety Town.
Recently they held their first “Open Bike Night” of the season to help ensure kids ride their wheels safely throughout town.
Kids hopped on bikes and rode around Safety Town, following the rules of the road, like riding single file, stopping and looking both ways at intersections and following road signs and signals.
“These are life-long skills, you can still ride a bike at age 90, so this is something that is a great skill to have. They’re learning to be courteous, and when they eventually learn to drive a car a lot of the rules are exactly the same, so it can develop good driving skills before they become drivers,” said Sydney Zuhn, Program Director at Safety Town.
All for a cost of five dollars, kids were also able to properly get their helmet fitted- allowing for less than three fingers to fit underneath the chin-strap and not move around on their head.
More “Open Bike Nights” will be held throughout the summer on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m.
