Spring Allergies to be Severe

Doctors are warning that this year’s allergy season could be tough due to the lack of winter we’ve experienced around the area.

“Allergy symptoms may be more severe because we’ve not had a very harsh winter, it’s been warm, we’ve had a lot of rain so we’re suspecting that mold is going to be high, we may have an early spring,” said Dr. Lisa Walinski, Family Medicine Physician with Edward Medical Group.

Typical allergy symptoms include runny nose, congestion, sneezing and itchy eyes – signs that often mimic a cold but last for a longer amount of time.

Lifestyle modifications can help limit the affects of these symptoms.

“During allergy season, keeping your windows closed, when you come home you shower at night, not during the day, keep your room as sterile as you possibly can. Dust and vacuum your room twice a week,” added Dr. Walinski.

Walinski says allergies have been on the rise for the last three years.
