District 203 recently met for their last meeting of 2017.

The board of education reappointed superintendent Dan Bridges for a five-year contract that begins July 1, 2018 and extends to June 2023. Bridges has been credited with jumpstarting the digital learning initiative and many other district successes.

“It has been an incredible journey working with each and every one of you and you as a whole board,” Bridges commented. “I share often with my superintendent colleagues that I am blessed to have a board who cares about kids, who’s administrators do their work, and puts what’s best for kids first in every decision we make.”

Bridges has been superintendent of District 203 for six years.

Also of note- the board approved the redemption of the 2008 bonds, which eliminates over $3.2 million of interest that would be owed. The district will be paying about $9.68 million early, resulting in the $3.2 savings for taxpayers.

Board members expressed much excitement toward this approval.

“We’ve been talking about this for a number of years and we’ve been putting aside money every year to make sure that we have money allocated to pay for the bonds. It’s really good that we’re able to keep our commitment for what we’ve been talking about and promised and actually abate the bonds,” said Board Member Terry Fielden.

The District 203 board will return on January 8 for the first meeting of 2018.
