Taps for 9/11
The Exchange Club of Naperville arranged for Taps to be played at the Naperville Municipal Center near the Dan Shanower Memorial. This is in honor of the 20th anniversary of 9/11. As a part of the remembrance, searchlights were also shone into the sky.
“We’re gathered here tonight with these searchlights behind me illuminating 50,000 feet into the sky representing the two trade center buildingsin New York City that came down,” said Exchange Club of Naperville member Marty Walker.
Taps were played by Mike Cooper and shone in the sky until 11 p.m.
Remembrance Ceremony
Tomorrow on Saturday, September 11, the club will hold its annual remembrance ceremony at the Dan Shanower Memorial. Shanower was a Naperville native who was a Navy Intelligence Officer at the Pentagon. He lost his life on 9/11. The Naperville Municipal Band will perform starting at 8:30 a.m., with the official ceremony starting off at 8:46 a.m. – the moment the first plane hit the World Trade Center’s North Tower, 20 years ago. Naperville’s Shanower Memorial was one of the first 9/11 memorials built after the tragedy. If you aren’t able to make it to the ceremony in person, it will be streamed live on the NCTV17 Facebook and will be available to view on NCTV17.com.
