The public was recently invited to give their input on the Washington Street Bridge project.
At an open house in the Naperville Municipal Center, residents could see examples of what the bridge may look like, learn more about the construction timeline and ask questions about the project.
The bridge has to be replaced after nearly 100 years of wear and tear, something the city has been planning for.
“We do regular bridge inspections; we knew the bridge was coming up on the end of its life. We did actually do some work about ten or 12 year ago to extend the life of the bridge till now but we knew this day was coming,” said Deputy City Engineer, Andy Hines.
While construction isn’t expected to begin until 2020, once started it will take about 11 months and cost around $6 million, 80 percent of which will be paid for with federal funding.
