“What’s Really Happening in Springfield?” State Representative Stephanie Kifowit and State Senator Linda Holmes asked that question for a public forum this morning at Waubonsie Valley High School.
Around 80 attended the free event; joining panel discussions focused on the Illinois state budget, school funding, and property taxes.
“So I think that when you find out that your elected officials are willing to be accessible, are willing to be out there, want to get the feedback of our residents, that’s really the most important job function we have,” said Holmes. “We’re a voice in Springfield, but we’re a voice of the people who elect us to go down to Springfield, therefore I think it’s always important to connect back to those voters and hear from them and what they’re looking for.”
Presenting the panels were Ralph Martire, the Executive Director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, Warren Dixion III, a Naperville Township Accessor, and Ginger Ostro, the Executive Director of Advance Illinois.
Kifowit and Holmes have hopes to make forums like this into an annual or biannual event.
