Naperville North, already 8 and 3 on the season welcomes Benet Academy into their gym for non-con volleyball. This game kicks off three away games for the redwings, who come off a loss at home against Bartlett.
First Set
Benet coming out strong in the first set, Matt Degnan sets up Augie Mazza for the kill to tie the game up at 1.It took a little bit for North’s offense to get going but their defense was there on time. Dillion Bramlett throws up the block for the point. North up 5-3.
First set held a back and fourth battle but Benet’s Sean Becker grabs an easy point on the service ace. Benet now back leading 12-7.
North defense would keep them in the first set. Another block party lead by Connor Wojcik for the huskies, trailing by 2.
Becker would still continue on her serving train… grabbing another ace and grabbing the first set victory 25-16.
Second Set
Second set and Benet getting a little tricky. Degnan quick sets Kevin Drazba who taps it over for the point. Benet leading early in set two.
Everything is starting to come together for the huskies though, their defense was ready for the benet attack and then Kevin Doran gets the kill as the ball falls between the blockers. North leading 16-12.
Doran would also get on the stat sheet for the solo block a little later in the set extending norths lead 18-13.
Set point for the huskies and Benet not laying down just yet… the get the nice defensive block but on the second attempt, Henry Zhou gets the attempt to go and North takes the second set 25-19.
Third Set
Benet took the first, north took the second, so we head to a decisive third set. Benet already trailing but Davis Kendrick gets the strong kill for the point, trailing only by 5.
Little later, Benet not able to get anything set up, they send a free ball over which north takes advantage of. Quick set to Zhou who gets it done. North up 16-10.
And North took it from there… on set point, Benet has a serving error and North takes the hard fought match in three sets 16-25, 25-19, 25-17.
