Pack the Place

It’s a scene straight out of a Chicago Bulls game

With the court flooded with light, the District 203 team was introduced in front of a raucous crowd.

It’s Pack the Place night at Naperville Central.

Brandon: It’s exciting to see all your friends come out to support you, and special Olympics. It’s just amazing.

On top of the charged atmosphere, it’s also senior night, as Central students Gus and Brandon are honored.

Gus: (it’s senior night and) I may miss these guys and today’s a big day for me. I’ve been here a long time. And me and Brandon are quite the dudes on the team.

And the Redhawks will share the court with home of their Huskie counterparts

William: I am very honored and blessed to be here and I was nominated for homecoming king.

Brandon Moriarty: I just think there needs to be more awareness about special Olympics and looking around, there’s a ton of support here, but there could always be more. I know that sounds a little greedy but we love giving these kids everything they deserve.

Brandon Moriarty is a behavioral specialist and special education teacher in district 203. He helped organize this important event for his student athletes.

Brandon Moriarty: It shows them that they have the support that the general education basketball players do. When you get a night like this where both schools come out and you’ve got all their peers it just shows them that. It’s inclusivity week in America so it just shows that we all belong. And it’s something that we can all have fun with together.

As for the game itself – its all about claiming that win.

Gus: We’re all a team together who play hard and do what we got to do.

Brandon: It’s exciting to see all your friends come out to support you, and special Olympics. It’s just amazing.
