Early season volleyball action with Metea Valley hosting Downers Grove North. The Trojans come off a loss to Downers Grove South and the Mustangs are also in search of their first win after losing to Hinsdale Central the day before.
First Set
First set, opening volley, Alec Gaertner with the kill right over the net. Metea up 1-0.
Downers Grove North leading now later in the first set, Noah Clements with the sneaky second hit over to advance their lead by 5.
Set point with Metea Now in the lead again, Joseph Martens hits it out of play for North, first set goes to Metea on the comeback.
Second Set
Into the second set and Downers Grove North connecting. Metea’s Ryan Owens attempt is blocked by the Trojans brick wall. The purple leads up 5.
Little later on, Jason Gasser takes a play out of the Trojans book and gets a block to cut the Trojans lead 8-3.
Downers Grove never let up the lead. Set point for the Trojans and this time it’s a metea hit that goes out for the Trojans to take the second set.
Third Set
In the decisive third set, All tied up at 4 that is until a crazy play happens with the DGN defense. They somehow get the ball back into the corner for the point, 5-4.
Metea leading by 2 later in the third, a nice kill attempt from Daniel Eckmann who ends up getting the point after metea can’t rally.
Match point for DGN and Emmett Thiessen gets the cross court kill for the Trojans to take the third set 25-19. Metea is now 0-2 while DGN is 2-1.
