We get the first round of the DVC Badminton Tournament with the doubles taking place at Naperville North. The hosts the huskies won the tournament last year and look to repeat as champions with a smaller field.
#1 Doubles Semi-Finals
We start first with the semi finals in one doubles with Neuqua’s Zhao and Barnwall against North’s Manikona and Liang. And the huskies strike first with a quick reaction.
Liang gets in on the fun and moves up towards the net and makes the leaping kill for the Huskies to take the two set victory and move on. Neuqua gets fourth.
Another semi final match with Waubonsie’s Manoharan and Nadguada against Mizoguchi and Zhoa. Redhawks get the early advantage.
But Manoharan, the weathered state finalist from last year gets her gears in motion for the point. The Warrior dou ends up in third.
#3 Doubles Third Place
We now move to the Third place bout with #3 doubles. Michra and Hu for the Redhawks facing off against Kagathi and Liu of North. A longer rally but Liu gets the point for the huskies who take game 1.
Second Game and Central hanging on. They fight through the rally, forcing a huskie error for the point.
But the Huskies would come out on top as the bird flies out for the victory.
#2 Doubles Championship
To the championship match for #2 doubles. Huskies Shih and Chiou facing off against Kok and Nukasani. Quick first point for the huskies for the cross that lands in.
But Metea would continue swinging as Nukasani tries a few times before forcing the error for Metea to take the first game and eventually the match.
#1 Doubles Championship
Back to #1 doubles for the championship with Metea’s Nitya Nagaurajan and Sophia Wang against North’s Stephanie Liang and Bhaavya Manikonda. Nagarajun with the quick reflex for the early point.
Few points later though and the Huskies starting moving all over the court, eventually getting the kill and the game one win.
Second game and Manikonda seems to be the one moving all over the court, covering all the corners until Liang gets to the back line for the drop shot and the point.
And that’ll be all she wrote, Metea can’t recover from the deep shot from the Huskies and they take the top spot in #1 Doubles.
