The weather cleared up for some DVC Boys Tennis championship action at Waubonsie Valley where we start with the #1 singles third place match with Alekx Schroader against Elliot Dam.
#1 Singles Third Place
In the first set freshman Elliot Dam hits it just over the line for Schreoder to win the first set 6-1.
Second set action And the junior proves his veteran status over the freshman as he sends a rocket that Dam can’t return. Schroder grabs 3rd place after a 6-2 victory.
#1 Singles Championship
Now to the championship match of #1 singles. Centra’s Joseph Li facing off against Neuqua’s Eddie Newman.
After some exchanges, Li wins the battle as Newman hits it just out of bounds. The Redhawk takes the first set 6-0.
Second set action and Newman is in control by working all areas of the court and then just crushing it for the point.
But the #1 seed Li prevails after Newman hits it out of bounds. The Redhawk takes the top spot 6-2 and the DVC title.
#1 Doubles Third Place
We pick up a partner for #1 doubles third place match. Neuqua’s Tyler Smith and Chris Beck face Metea’s Nathan Erickson and George Gudgeon.
The Wildcat duo take the first set handily with a 6-0 win.
Second set action and the mustangs just couldn’t get past the cats. Beck slips one past the defenders for the two set in, 6-0, 6-2.
#1 Doubles Championship
Now to the #1 doubles championship match witch holds a Redhawk pair in Naveen Ramakrishnan and Ameer Saeed against Preston Chao and Vellanki.
After the Redhwks take the first set 6-1 they score in the 2nd set off a rocket near the line.
The huskies keep things interesting in the 2nd set. Vellanki blasts one that the Redhawks can’t send back.
After battling back in the 2nd set, the Redhawks complete the come back to become first doubles champions and help the team take home the DVC plaque.
