Naperville Central taking on Geneva in the softball regional championship, the game was supposed to be at Geneva but the weather moved the matchup over to the St. Charles North field.

Pitchers Duel Early

The Redhawks defeated West Aurora in the regional semis and just like in that game, pitcher Halle Arends with a great start, racking up one of her 9 strikeouts to end the third inning.

Arends in a bit of a jam in the 5th with the bases loaded with one out, but Arends gets Bella Walton to ground back to Arends, who gets an out at the plate.

Late Innings

But the Vikings bats can only be contained for so long. Geneva breaks the game open in the 6th, Sydney Erdman with an rbi single to left to score Sam Keller and it’s 4-0 Vikings.

Later in the inning, Madison Femia with a hard ground ball that gets through the infield, two runs come in to score and it’s a 6-0 game.

That would be more than enough for Vikings ace Shelly Deisz, she gets one of her four strikeouts to end the 6th, one of 17 consecutive Redhawks retired.

Last At Bat

Jacqueline Abogado is the last hope for Naperville Central, but she pops out to the catcher. A one hitter for Shelly Deisz as Geneva gets the shutout win 8-0 to capture its first regional championship since 2010.
