The IHSA Boys State Swimming meet is being hosted by New Trier High School. Neuqua Valleyy, Waubonsie Valley, Naperville Central and Naperville North all have their eyes on the prize along with St. Charles North and Glenbrook South.
We start first with the championship 200 IM with Waubonsie’s Aayush Deshpande in lane 3. Halfway through the race, he is just trailing the leaders in the two lanes to his left. Coming down the stretch, battling, Deshpande taps in 2nd with a time of 1:49.65 right behind Ryan Purdy of Glenbrook North.
Next race: the 100 free final and Neuqua Sophomore Connor Boyle in the yellow cap. He is hanging on at the end of the race, moving through the water and finishes in 3rd in 45.07 seconds. He would also finishes 4th in the 200 medley. Not a bad day for the sophomore and he still has relays too!
We go back to a wildcat and the longest race in the state.. Jack Hiss swimming the 500free. A lot of back and fourth for this race but in the end, Fenwick’s Liam Hutchinson would finish in first with a commanding lead and time of 4:24.47 seconds. 2nd with by Everet Andrew from Loyala and 3rd with a time of 4:33.38 seconds is senior Jack Hiss.
A lot of Naperville kids in this next one. The consolation swim of the 200 free relay. Naperville Norths Grant Bochenski is in lane 2 while Naperville Centrals Brad Sanford and Waubonsies Brian Daugherty are on the other end of the pool. Final anchor coming in and youll see them jump but Waubonsie grabs 8th, Central right behind them in 9th, and North in 11.
We are nearing the end… event 11, the 100 breast stroke with Central Ben Russo. The day before, he swam this in 56.73 seconds and today he beat it. Tapping in 56.1 seconds, tying himself in 3rd with Max Tida from Glenbrook South. St,. Charles Nortths Will Myhre finished first.
Last race of the day… and going in to it Neuqua Valley is sitting in 4th and Waubonsie just 7 points behind them in 5th. Always a big and fun race with Neuqua, Waubonsie, and Central all competing in the final swim. Final exchange and Waubonsies the first one in but watch out for the Neuqua Sophomore.. . catching up and then taking the lead for Neuqua to grab first in the relay with Waubonsie in second and Naperville Central in third.. it’s like we are at the DVC meet… Those big finishes helped Waubonsie jump to 3rd place with 99 points and Neuqua finish in 2nd with 112 points, the best school finish since they placed 2nd in 2009.
