The cold and windy weather didn’t stop some baseball from being played during spring break week. Metea Valley hits the road to face West Aurora in an early-season matchup. The Mustangs try for their fourth win in a row, while West Aurora looks to continue a winning streak of their own, after taking one against Romeoville. This highlight is sponsored by BMO.
The Mustangs score first
In the top of the first, with a runner on second, Ethan Singer knocks a single to left field. Owen Goeb scores from second base, putting the black and yellow up one early.
We fast-forward to the bottom of the third, where the Blackhawks get on the board. Tyler Fecht nails a single into the outfield to get on base. After a walk from Metea pitcher Diego Gutierrez, Zach Toma singles to right field, scoring Fecht. West Aurora ties this one up at 1 apiece through three.
Metea takes the lead in the sixth
In the bottom of the fifth, after a walk, Oscar Alexander Jr. doubles down the right field line for an RBI. The Blackhawks take the lead 2-1.
In the top half of the sixth, Dayton Ramiscal walks, then Tyler Darche doubles to right, setting Metea up with a chance to take the lead.
Later in the inning, Tyler Gluting hits to third base, but the throw to first gets past the first baseman, sending Gluting to second and bringing Ramiscal and Darchs home. Metea gets back on top, leading 3-2.
West Aurora comes back for the win
After a walk to Henry Hinkle to start the bottom half of the sixth, Brayden Jones lays down a sacrifice bunt to advance Hinkle to second.
In the next at-bat, Keegan Olsen singles to center field, which puts runners on the corners with one out.
After a hit by pitch to load the bases, Elliot Zielke hits a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring the tying run from third.
With two outs and the game tied at 3-3, Tyler Fecht belts a line drive single to left that brings in another two runs. The Blackhawks take a two-run lead headed into the top of the seventh.
Last call for Metea Valley to score; however, the bats couldn’t get going in the final frame. West Aurora hangs on for the 5-3 victory at home. The Mustangs will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday afternoon in Rolling Meadows, while West Aurora hosts Joliet Catholic on Thursday.
