Metea Valley vs Glenbard North Girls Basketball 12.3.19

The beginning of the girls basketball season has Glenbard North hosting Metea Valley. The mustangs come in to this game with just one loss out of the four games they have played while North is still in search of their first win.

First Half

Game tied at 2s early. Mustangs passing around the horn until Chloe Kurkjian gets it just inside the three point line, she drains the shot for the mustangs to take a 4-2 lead.

Three minutes left in the first quarter, North’s Alyssa Havard finds Olivia Corona wide open to her right and she sinks the 3 pointer for GBN to take the lead 7-6.

Seconds left in the first, Metea up by 7. Glenbard cuts in to that as North’s Anna Pedraza finds Corona open to her left and she sinks her second three pointer of the quarter.

Glenbard up by one in the second quarter, Metea’s Khaliah Reid finds Raina Panttila wide open in the corner. She lands the triple for the mustangs to retake the lead 17-15.

Second Half

Third quarter action now, Metea Valley up 19-15. North’s Alyssa Havard shows off her dribbling skills to get past the Metea defense and pops it in for two, only down 19-17.

Fourth and final stanza GBN leading 27-21, Glenbard turning the ball over towards the half court and Metea’s Raina Penttila capitalizes on the chance. She gets the and one to cut in to the lead, 27-23.

This back and fourth battle continuing with 2 and a half minutes left, North’s Nevaeh King takes her time until she shakes her defender and then sinks the easy three, GBN leading 33-24 now.

Within the final minute, Metea trying to claw back into the game. Chloe Kurkjian nails the three pointer but North remains strong and holds off the mustangs giving them their first win of the season, 38-27.
