Lewis University the host field for the Romeoville Supersectional as Naperville North girls soccer finds itself back on this field for the 4th year in a row. The Minooka Indians await after winning the first sectional championship in school history over Edwardsville.
First Half
Early in the game, Huskies hope to strike first, Katie Murphy leaves a pass to Leah Shumate, but Minooka goalie Isabella Alessio tracks it the whole way for the save.
Nearly halfway through the first, Meredith Conant sends a pass to Mia Alessio, who slips past the defense and spins a shot towards the corner. The Huskies and only watch as the ball spins into the net for the opening goal of the game, 1-0 Minooka.
Brooke Brodzinski looks to add to the Minooka lead a few minutes later, but Amanda Johnson scoops up the shot off the turf to keep it a one goal game.
Under a minute to go in the first half, Leah Shumate with a corner kick, the ball is headed right to Maddie Thompson, but a great job by Isabella Alessio to find the ball in a crowd to keep a 1-0 lead for Minooka at halftime.
Second Half
30 seconds into the 2nd half, North already with a corner, Leah Shumate finds the head of Riley Riggs, Katie Murphy tracks down the loose ball and fires the equalizer into the left corner of the net and this ball game as tied at a goal apiece.
Huskies fired up by the early goal, Taylor Klaiber taps a nice pass ahead to Hannah Martin, but Martin lets the ball get too far ahead of her and Alessio is able to make the sliding tackle to get the ball away.
Another great chance for North, a three players collide going for a loose ball but Hannah Martin gets control, finds open space, but again Alessio makes a point blank stop to keep the game knotted at one.
A breakaway chance for Hannah Martin, who glides past the defense before Isabella Alessio again makes a great aggressive play to knock the shot away. Still 1-1 midway through the 2nd half.
Hannah Martin with some fancy footwork along the baseline, she creates a little room and sends a pass over to Emily Dulik, who deflects the ball into the net, Huskies take their first lead 2-1 with 20 minutes to play!
Last chance for Minooka under five minutes to go, nice play by Brooke Broszinski to win the ball, but her centering shot is snagged by Amanda Johnson. Naperville North holds on to complete the comeback and head back to state for the 2nd year in a row. The Huskies will face Lyons Township in the sectional semi final on Friday night.
