Naperville Centrals 2019 football campaign beginning at Hinsdale Central. The Redhawks facing off against the Red Devils as a rematch from last years season opener which the Redhawks lost… New this year is Sam Jackson as QB… maybe that can be the difference maker taking over for Payton Thorne, now at Michigan State.
First Quarter
First quarter action, Central with the ball. Jackson showing off his wheels as QB. Goes right but then decides better of it and cuts inside then slides down, getting the Redhawks close enough for a field goal.
Red Devils looking to make some noise early on… but that is quickly stifled by Ryan Lein who grabs hold of QB Michael Brescia and brings him down.
But Brescia finds success a few plays later. He fakes the hand off and keeps it himself… nothing but pay dirt in front of him and he goes 61 yards to the house to put the Red Devils in the lead 7-3.
Second Quarter
In to the second quarter with Hinsdale Central about to punt… you don’t see the ball go up thanks to Naperville Central with the block, putting them in great field position.
Still in the second quarter, Redhawks down four. Jackson drops back and tosses one over to Trevor Simpson who brings it down and in to the end zone… but a penalty was called and the TD was wiped away…. Redhawks would get a field goal though.
Third Quarter
In to the second half we go. Naperville Central still trailing by 1. Simpson gets a little redemption and finds some gaps for a first down but centrals success would stop there.
Fourth Quarter
4th quarter now… also fourth down… Sam Jackson heaves up a little bit of a prayer to the end zone but it would be a little too far from the receivers resulting in a turnover on downs.
The Red Devils, however, would find success once more. Brescia puts the game on ice with a pass to Braden Contreras and the Red Devils repeat history, defeating the Redhawks 14-6.
