It’s the Battle for the Naperville Lacrosse Cup. Jake Stegman and the Redhawks are still in search for their first win of the season while the Huskies enter the game undefeated and with possession of the cup.
First Quarter
Early in the first quarter, Jake Stegman chases down a ball in the offensive zone, once he gains possession he shows off his skill going to one hand and whipping the ball between the legs to for goal. Central up 1-0.
Midway through the first, Grant Pass with the ball behind the net. He waits it out and then finds Jacob Lubrant for the quick release to tie the game at 1.
Shortly after that, Pass with the ball again, he blows past a pair of defenders and then splits two more and scores. North takes the lead 2-1.
1:30 left in the first, Colin Kaiser with the ball, he goes towards the middle of the field and hits Lubrant for his second goal of the game, North leads 3-1 at the end of the first.
Second Quarter
Little over seven minutes left in the second, Matthew Maschmeier waiting it out and then blows by Johnny Whitaker then bounces the shot into the back of the net, North extending their lead 5-1.
Just under 3 minutes until the break, Maschmeier back at it. He gets the ball in the same spot, calls the same play and gets the same result. North noe up 7-1.
On the ensuing face off… Jack DeStefano gets the ball but Cole Loebig hammers it right out of his stuck and the huskies are back in business. Cort Dunlap picks the ball up, streaks into the zone, hits Mikey Ancona and he fires a laser into the net. North now leading by 7.
A minute left until half, Mike Ancona with the ball again. He fakes the shot and hits Joey Sacco for the goal. North leads 10-1 at the break.
Third Quarter
5 minutes left in the third, Huskie Colin Kaiser driving and runs into a sea of defenders. He pass to Ancona and despite being heavily guarded, he throws a missle and finds twine. North up 10.
Minute and a half left in the third, North’s Grant Pass gets the ball and blows right by the redhawk defense and scores his third goal of the game, North up 14-2 heading into the 4th.
Fourth Quarter
Despite the rough night for Central, Jake Stegman was a bright spot. He shakes off a defender and once again scores with one hand. He finishes with 4 of the 5 central goals.
Shortly after that, Sam Caldarazzo with the ball in open space, the offensive lineman plows over a defender, scaring off the rest and then scores. That puts an exclamation mark on the win and the huskies retain possession of the Naperville Lacrosse Cup 16-5.
