Naperville Central setting its sights on a win in playoff action against Waubonsie Valley. Warriors pitcher Alex Lemmons is locked in for the regional quarterfinal matchup.

First Inning

Bottom of the first and three-hitter Cole Gregorio up at the plate… he bounces back to Kyle Steele, who turns the 1-6-3 double play to end the inning.

Second Inning

Top of the second now and after a lead off single from Jared Suchevits, Lemmons strikes out the next three hitters to retire the side.

Not to be outdone, Steele strikes out the final two batter in the bottom of the second… we’ve got a good pitchers duel… and a scoreless game.

Third Inning

Top of the third inning and Sam Hojnar at the dish… the lefty masher sends a shot to left and that brings in leadoff man Danny Hughes to open up the scoring. 1-0 Redhawks.

Bottom of the inning and Waubonsie ready to get that run right back. After Will Cullen doubled to open the inning, Will Jaynes drives him in to knot the game at 1.

Sticky situation here for Kyle Steele, with the bases loaded and nobody out. But he induces a ground ball picked up by third baseman Kevin Chan, who turns the rare 5-2-3. Great defense on display for the Redhawks.

Fifth Inning

Zooming ahead to the bottom of the fifth and Ryan Mutz attempting to break up a tied ball game… and it ricochets off Steele’s glove and towards second base… Mutz reaches and drives in a run. Two cross in the inning.

But the Redhawks answer… Patrick Boyer at the plate with two ducks on the pond and slashes a liner past the first baseman… it’s fair and Central ties the game at 3.

But the inning isn’t over – after an error brings in another run, Jared Suchevits pulls a ball through the left side. 5 runs in the inning – Central now leads 6-3.

And Suchevits not just doing work with the bat, but comes in and strikes out four in the final two innings to end the ball game. Naperville Central moving on face Metea after a 6-3 win.
