Naperville North and Naperville Central took to the links at Springbrook Golf Course, where the Huskies shot a round of 141 to secure the win over the rival Redhawks.
Hey now, it’s time for a Crosstown Classic, boys golf edition, as Naperville North heads over to Springbrook Golf Course to take on Naperville Central. The defending DVC champs look to make it three straight wins over the Redhawks. This highlight is sponsored by BMO.
Redhawks soar high early
Central’s Graeme Cavanagh gets off to a good start by turning a chip into a birdie with an assist from the pin. That’s one way to start one under.
Lincoln Schultz from Naperville North is hoping to follow up, but this chip doesn’t take that route to the pin. However, it gets in great putting position for Schultz to make par.
Naperville North sophomore Will Provenzano lines up for a long birdie. He puts enough power on the putt but just misses the hole. Provenzano secures the par to keep him even in the early going.
Over to hole four as Logan Greene for Central makes the best of his second shot. The putt stops near the hole so Greene takes the par.
Back to Cavanagh on hole seven. He thinks he’s getting a second birdie but this one misses the cup. Cavanagh pars the hole and shoots a 35.
Have a day, Lincoln Schultz
Here is Schultz again with a downhill birdie putt. It speeds up going down the hill, and Schultz runs into your frame; he knows that ball is in for the birdie. Schultz with four birdies on the round as he scores an impressive 32.
Huskies continue to pitch in. Jack Fleury sends a rocket tee shot that lands and rolls into the picture. Fleury completes the hole with a par.
The Redhawks finish strong on the ninth green as Tyler Sweda targets the green and hits the spot. Sweda shoots a 38 to help the cause.
Owen Mack from Central also shoots in the high 30’s with a 39, as he delivers a nice putt to keep him under 40.
Huskies finish strong to pick up win
However, the Huskies continue to show their veteran strength. Henry Haumesser sends one from the fairway to the green. Haumesser is solid as always with a 37 for the home team.
Noah Redmond caps off the day and a dominating performance for the Huskies with a par as North shoots a team round of 141 to lock up an eight-stroke rivalry victory, 141-149, to wrap up the first full week of the season.
