Naperville North Girls Basketball Ends Drought

Naperville North Girls Basketball ending their 15 year drought without a regional title is cause for us to make them NSW’s Team Profile.

Consider the Naperville North Girls Basketball season a long check-list

New coach… check, Erin Colletti has already proven her mettle and her team has proved its mettle to her in just one season

Colletti: They’re more than just great players, they’re absolutely fabulous young women that I love, I love these girls… we continue to fight, we continue to believe, never give up. And we rely on each other to stay together, in very stressful times.

Next up on the checklist… the DVC title. Which the Huskies ran wild through, going 10-0 in conference play.

Kampschroeder: We’ve had to fight through some adversity; we’ve had some injuries since over the summer, during summer league. And now we have some young freshman in here and they stepped up big tonight and they’ve been stepping up all season.

And how about a regional title. Out of reach the past 14 seasons, that was the hardest checkmark to pen.

Drendel: We just realized this could be our last game, we have to push as hard as we can. Especially for these seniors, because it’s their first regional championship.

The Huskies completed an improbable comeback – trailing by 7 in the fourth to beat West Aurora 49-43.

Next vacant box? A sectional title.

Kampschroeder: My freshman year we lost in triple overtime and that was so devastating. And then last year we didn’t even make it to this game. And it just feels good to finally win it and move forward and hopefully keep going. I’m really proud of how this team played.
