Semifinal action of the Carillon cup has Naperville North facing off against Neuqua Valley for the third time this season. The Wildcats sit 10 and 4 on the season entering this game.
First Period
First period action with north on the offensive. Gavin Klaisle’s attempt doesn’t work but Jake Bujusz gets the short pass and knocks in the goal for the huskies to go up 1-0.
Now it’s Neuquas turn to be on the attack, still in the first period. Little cross ice passing leads to Marco Rovito assisting Connor Duncan on the equalizer.
Second Period
Still tied at 1s in to the second period, Neuqua’s Logan Breen fires a shot from far out… little chaos in front of the net but Rovito cleans up the rebound and gets the goal to go for Neuqua to take the lead 2-1.
Naperville North looking to knot the game up and respond later in the second period but Neuqua’s Carter Crokin denies the attempt from Dan Boscarino. Neuqua still in the lead.
Still in the second period, Wildcats look to clear the puck but Gavin Klaisle swoops in, steals the puck and then lifts it in to the back of the net. Game again tied up at 2s.
Second period winding down, all knotted up at 2, Connor Duncan looks to get the puck back in to play but his pass is deflected off of Thomas Boscarino’s skate and goes somehow in to the back of the net for the wildcat goal. Neuqua leads 3-2.
Third Period
Third and final period, Neuqua Valley on the break away. Jake Boudreau fires one at the net but Huskie net minder Kevin Branner grabs the shot. Wildcats still lead 3-2.
North’s last attempt as time is winding down, they get a couple shots close to the goal but the wildcat defense keeps them at bay long enough to grab the narrow victory 3-2 and move on to the Carillon Cup Championship to face off against the warriors.
