We’ve got ourselves a packed house at the Girls Water Polo Finals at Stevenson. The Naperville North Huskies are making their first ever appearance while their opponents have won state the 3 of the last 4 years.

First Quarter

First quarter and Taylor Wessel just getting attacked in front of the net but she fights off a defender to put the huskies on the board, 1-0.

Stevenson is right on their tails though. Shreya Sreedhar breaks to the net and puts one in across to the other corner to tie the game up at 1s.

Still in the first quarter, Stevenson’s Anne Baldino tosses a shot from deep and it sneaks over. The defending state champs starting to flex their muscles.

It’s a 3 to 1 game now but North with a good scoring opportunity but Anna Mossakowski makes an indredible save to protect stevensons lead.

Second Quarter

Second quarter now and a loose ball in front of the net gets scooped up by Lauren Maloney who then finds the back of the net. Stevenson on a roll, leading 5-1.

Third Quarter

Coming out of intermission North looking to come out strong trailing by 5. Meg Sparacino is able to grab a huge rebound and put it in for North, down 7-3.

Stevenson… yeah they aren’t fazed though. Lauren Maloney tracks the entry pass and finishes with the no look back hand to extend their lead, 8-3.

North desperately trying to stay in it with a minute and a half left in the third. Claire Jansen is able to grab a rebound a score a huge goal to pull north within 3, 8-5.

Fourth Quarter

But the back to back state champs were too much tonight. Lauren Maloney is able to seal the victory for Stevenson as they three-peat as state champions. Naperville North finishes 2nd, the best finish in school history.
