October 25th 2019 is officially known as Paul Murphy day, deemed by the City of Aurora. It also is the day that the Waubonsie Valley Warrior’s regular season comes to a close, hosting the Naperville North huskies. North sits 2-6 on the year while the Warriors are at 3-5.
First Half
North looks to open up scoring early as they sit on the doorstep in the first quarter. Anthony Gabrione hands the rock off to Lontrez Duckworth who moves left and finds the endzone. Huskies go up 7-0.
It doesn’t take long for Waubonsie Valley to respond though. Just two minutes later and Ethan Nelson’s turn to hand it off to Bryce Logan. He goes right up the middle just like they taught me in the 1 on 1 with allie to find pay dirt. WV goes up 8-7 after the two point conversion.
Still in the first, just a minute after WV scored. Nelson again, looking to run the same play with Logan… or is he. Nelson fakes the hand off, keeps it himself and scores the touchdown. Warriors now up 15-7.
North trailing by 8 at the beginning of the second quarter. Gabrione finds Matt Maschmeier wide open. He turns and runs 60 yards for the touchdown to keep North in it, trailing by 1, 15-14.
Seven minutes to play until half time and Nelson, again, pulling the trick play… even our camera man fell for it. He fakes the handoffs and then finds Ryan Mutz on the outside who gets tripped up but makes it to the end zone. Warriors now lead 22-14.
Seconds left before the break, Gabrione connects with Luke Williams wide open in the endzone for the touchdown pass. Huskies walk in to the locker room trailing by just 1, 22-21.
Second Half
Second half action now with the huskies punting. Joseph Gits gets his hands up and blocks the ball, then finds it and recovers it in the endzone for a wild WV touchdown. 28-21 after that chaos.
Fourth and final stanza. Nelson connecting with Elijah Lee in the endzone for the diving touchdown pass. Warriors extend their lead 35-21.
WV looks to put a nail in the coffin for Murphys final regular season game as a coach for the warriors and Logan runs in his second touchdown of the night to do just that. Waubonsie Valley ends their regular season at 4-5 with a 42-21 victory.
