We’ve got a heated DVC rivalry tonight but the weather conditions were anything but as Neuqua Valley visits Metea valley. The Wildcats sit 5-1 on the year while the mustangs mirror them at 1 and 5.
First Quarter
The widlcats get things rolling right from the beginning. Running back Armani Moreno slices through the mustang defense, sitting at 2nd and 5. He gets the gain of 20 yards and the cats are knocking on the door early.
Next play and Moreno finishes what he started. He plows through the line and Neuqua jumps out to a 6-0 lead.
Still in the first quarter and the mustangs start clicking on all cylinders. 3rd and 11 from the 26 and Logan Frederick swings it out out to CJ Wilcox who does the rest! He finds the gap and goes 74 yards for the touchdown to tie the gam eup at 6s early!
Next possession for the wildcats and Moreno gets the nod again. He goes zipping through the defense but the ball gets knocked loose and the mustangs recover inside the 5!
Metea then tries to get out of their own endzone but Jeremiah Robertson and Hoey Matusik have other plans! They force the safety and Neuqua now lead 8-6.
Second Quarter
In to the second quarter and Neuqua has good field position after the safety and they look to capitalize on it. Moreno, once again, relied on, takes it in for his 2nd touchdown of the night to put neuqua up 15-6.
After a fumble that was recovered by Neuqua on the kickoff, the cats are back in business… and who else but Armani Moreno… He runs in his 3rd TD of the night… this time for 19 yards out to extend the wildcats lead 22-6.
Cats still clicking just before the end of the half. They are in striking distance again but this time QB Mark Gronowski gets in on the action with a rushing TD of his own. CComplete domination by Neuqua as they lead 29-6 at the half.
Third Quarter
Early 3rd quarter and it’s more of the same. This time the cats attack via the air as Gronowski finds Garrett Stare for a 34 yard touchdown, Neuqua Valley now up 30.
Metea not going away easy though. QB Logan Frederick finds Will Hopkins who takes the screen pass for 53 yards… He beats out the defense and finds pay dirt, Mustangs trail 36-14.
4th Quarter
4 minutes left in the 4th quarter and the mustangs are running out of time. CJ Wilcox punches in another TD from 9 yards out and Metea Valley is still in it, down 36-21!!
But a cold fall night nor the mustangs defense could slow neuqua down. The cats put the game away as Colin Blazek finds Stare for another TD to seal their win, 43-21.
