The boys soccer season kicks off on the rain soaked turf of Plainfield North as the Tigers host the Wildcats from Neuqua Valley.
First Half
The rain stays away just long enough to get the game in, but in the early going it’s Plainfield North with a downpour of offensive pressure. NV goalie Luke Molnar comes out from the goal, but his defense buys him enough time to recover and make the save.
Ten minutes into the first half and Tiger sophomore Shea Bechtel races down the left side, he tries to shake the defense, before eventually getting a lefty shot off that rattles off the post, Sam Dachman flies in to knock the loose ball into the net for the first goal of the season. 1-0 North.
Later in the half, Sam Martinez with a shot that is blocked by Luke Molnar, it then hits Tyler Henderson square in the face, but Molnar manages to snag the ball to keep the deficit at one. Henderson is rattled but he stays in the game.
Tigers on the corner kick, which gets knocked into the air, Shea Bechtel with a running header, but again Molnar with the quick reflexes to keep it a 1-0 game at halftime.
Second Half
2nd half now, Wildcats get the offense going, Jack Georgi passes it ahead to forward Jack Bella, who wins the ball but shoots it just too high as the equalizer remains elusive.
Shea Bechtel keeps his strong game going as he makes a nice move and unleashes an absolutely perfect shot into the back corner. Plainfield North goes up 2-nil.
Neuqua still looking to find the net, Jaison Chisnell with the ball near the net, he creates a little space and fires, but Marco Papakostas makes a diving stop off the deflection.
Under ten minutes left, Avery Bell with a great effort to work his way through the defense and around a sliding Luke Molnar to tap in the final goal of the game. Plainfield North knocks off the young Wildcats 3-0 to start the season.
