Oswego East hosting the cross country regionals on a cold and windy late October morning. The Naperville Central boys hope to repeat the performance that won the Redhawks the twilight invite earlier this month.
The Race
A tight race to start with Central in the polka dots and Neuqua Valley in the yellow and blue horizontal stripes. The host Wolves from Oswego East also with a big pack near the front of the race.
Nearing the first mile mark, Jake Allen of Naperville North is neck and neck with frequent rival Alex Dovalovsky from Neuqua Valley. Oswego East with Herbie Alvarez, Nick Bozarth, Luke Wentz, Brad Wiggins and Maverick Lange are all near the front along with Arthur Graham and Nethan Ramachandran from Central, Jackson Morrill from West Aurora and Waubonsie runners Zach Benzinger, Robert Szivak, Jackson Bukala and Wes Beitler.
At the 2nd mile, Jake Allen pulls away a bit with Dovalovsky and the rest following behind, Tommy Palzer and Julian Head from Naperville North now in the mix along with Aiden Stone from Neuqua Valley.
Jake Allen crossed the finish line in first at 15:01 followed by Dovalovsky in 2nd, Jackson Morril in third and Zach Benzinger in 4th. Oswego East takes the regional championship, with North in 2nd. Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie Valley tie for third. Naperville Central and Oswego also qualify for sectionals as teams while Metea Valley runner Mamadu Diallo makes it as an individual.
