Early season basketball match up that pits Benet Academy against St. Patrick’s – Redwings off to a fast start, sitting at 2-0… the Shamrocks losing this game last year 48-35.
First Half
Benet up 6-3 with 4:30 to go in the opening quarter – Jack Prock misses the shot from inside the three point line – but teammate Jacob Snell is there to clean it up. 8-3 Wings
BA pushing that lead to 11-5 before swinging it around. Colin Gillepsie finds Prock in the corner for three… and this time it drops. 14-5.
So is St. Patrick’s going to put up a fight? Well, the answer is yes. Nick Galati shakes free and drains the step back three. Shamrocks to within 2… 17-15 in the second quarter.
In fact, check this out – Galati gets the feed in the corner and cuts to the rim. He draws contact and sinks the shot – count it and 1. St. Patrick’s leads 18-17.
Benet battling back though – Matt Reid with the no look dime to Prock – and how about another three. Benet’s turn to lead – up 23-21.
Second Half
To the second half – And Reid again dishing it out to teammates – this time it’s Sam Hennessy for the triple. Shamrocks lead though, 33-31.
Now with 41 seconds on the clock, Galati putting in work – gets into the lane before zipping it out to Benjamin Guschman. Drops in the three… St. Pats up 36-31 as we move to the fourth.
Down by 3 in the final quarter – Benet needs a spark. Prock has hit some big shots in this one but misses here…. But the senior lingering around. Reid comes up with it and finds Prock… and one! We’re all tied up at 39.
Benet Academy now up 42-41 but Galati changing that. The cold blooded three gives St. Pats a lead… and one they wouldn’t cough up. The dagger comes from Timaris Brown and St. Patrick holds on to win 57-49.
