Benet Academy meets Triad in the IHSA 2A State Semi-Finals for the right to advance to the State Championship vs Wauconda.
After clinching their birth into the state semi-finals with a dominant win over Fenwick, Benet Academy matches up with Triad at North Central College… and the winner gets Wauconda in the State Final.
First Half
First half of play and Benet trying to get on the board first. Cami Picha centers to Jaimee Cibulka… but Triad goalie Abbey Counts steps up and blocks the shot.
Under a minute to play in the first half and the game scoreless. Triad tries to clear but it pinballs around. Winding up on the foot of Mae Tully, she dishes to Mia Tommasone – and with one quick move, shakes free and scores! Benet lead 1-nil heading to the half.
Second Half
Second half and a free kick for Triad. The loooong send gets booted out… but Avery Bohnenstiehl hammers the ball just out of the reach of Benet goalie Eva Frantzen… and we’re all tied up.
Knights trying to take the lead off a throw in but a collision in the box allows Frantzen to snag the ball and keep the net clean.
Minutes later and Benet back on the attack. Abby Casmere remaining patient as she sets up her defender. She then uses a crossover and unleashes a shot that goes high. Still knotted at 1.
Late Game Action
Midway through the second half with the score sitting 1 to 1… and Abby Casmere trying to make a move to set up a shot… but gets rolled up on. That draws a whistle… and a penalty kick.
Which leads to Kate Flynn juking the goalie… Abbey Counts goes to her right… Flynn puts it in the opposite post and Benet now leads 2-1.
And to seal the game, Flynn triggers the corner kick, which perfectly places itself in front of Mia Tommasone… she does the rest as Benet is headed to the 2A State Championship game! 3-1 the final… and up next, Wauconda
