Benet Academy hosting Waubonsie Valley boys soccer, the Redwings dominated this matchup a year ago by the score of 8-0, but the improved Warriors hope to show this season is going to be a different story.

First Half

Waubonsie Valley with a free kick early and Aaron Griffith just goes for it, but Redwings keeper Vito Staniskis uses his long arms to snag the ball out of the air.

A little over 20 minutes to go in the first half and Anthony Klos with a well placed free kick right to the head of Hans Haenicke who gets the first goal of the season to go.

Later in the half and Haenicke looks to get his 2nd goal of the game, he tries to slip a shot under the keeper but Bryan Grimaldo with a great recovery to dive on the ball before it crosses the line. BA up 1-0 at the break.

Second Half

2nd half action as Benet on the move again, Thomas Miskan centers for Trent McVey, but again Grimaldo with a great point blank save and snag of the rebound.

Waubonsie looks for the equalizer as Brandon Garduno lobs a pass to Jerry Perez, who heads it towards the net, but Hunter Randolph manages to knock the ball out of harms way to preserve the lead.

BA with some solid passing as Preston Wray feeds Reece Taylor in front, Grimaldo with another tough save and Adrian Mehra comes over to block the ball away, WV still down 1.

Players were cramping up all afternoon in the season opener, some good sportsmanship on display as Nick Augustyn helps stretch out Zach Stanley to ease the discomfort.

Late in the 2nd half, Nick Augustyn with a free kick, it finds the foot of Anthony Klos who adds a goal to go with his earlier assist. That would be all the Redwings would need as they hang on for a 2-0 win to start the 2019 season.
