Waubonsie’s Aayush Deshpande looks to grab a few more state medals at this year’s state meet before moving on to the Ivy League to swim at Harvard next season. The Warriors took home the state third place trophy a year ago, which is the 2nd best state finish in program history. 2nd year head coach Chris Hagenbaumer set the Warriors mindset to prepare for the state meet and not to worry about tiring themselves out at the DVC Meet or at sectionals. Hagenbaumer knows a little something about what it takes to win at state, the WV coach was the program’s first ever state champion after winning the 100 breaststroke in 1989.

After winning four state runner up medals a year ago, Aayush Deshpande will also swim in college next year, joining former teammate Jared Simpson at Harvard. Although he is a versatile swimmer, Aayush swims in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly for the Warriors, although he does consider the freestyle events to be among his favorites.

Waubonsie Valley will have a tough task in trying to get back to the medal stand at state, rival Neuqua Valley finished as the state runner up last year and always provides a tough challenge.
