West Aurora and Metea Valley battling on a very soggy soccer pitch in a regional final match up. The mustangs defeated Neuqua in the Regional Semis 3-0 to get to this game.
First Half
Just past the 20th minute, WA’s Monoj Chuwan with the free kick but the ever faithful Metea goalie Ghandi Cruz makes the save to keep the board empty in the first half.
Just a minute later, and Cruz is tested again. Rashidi Meso sends a curving shot to the goal but Cruz lines it up correctly for the catch.
Cruz isn’t getting a moment off this game. West Aurora’s Jaziel Enriquez testing him this time with a shot from the side but Cruz punches the ball over the crossbar, keeping everything even.
14 minutes until half time and West Aurora finally finds the twine they’ve been looking for off a penalty kick from Miguel Magana. The blachawks lead 1-nil.
Metea Valley in the hunt with 7 minutes left in the first half. Alex Krehl finds himself in on the net but drags the shot a little wide. West Aurora still up 1.
Second Half
In to the second half, 48th minute, Ghandi Cruz back making big time saves as he punches away a strong shot from Zachary Thompson.
Just under 13 minutes to play in this final game. After Cruz makes the first save, sliding out of the box, the rebound is picked up by Alex Huitron who bends the ball in to the back of the net. Blackhawks double their lead, 2-0.
Almost exact same scenario in the 70th minute. Cruz makes another big save but West Aurora keeps the ball in front of the net and the rebound is picked up by Monoj Chuwan who just slides one right past Cruz for the dagger. West Aurora wins the Regional Final and moves on to play Naperville Central in the Sectional Semifinals.
