West Aurora looking for revenge in the 3A sectional final game against Naperville North. The Blackhawks lost to the huskies 5-1 in this exact match last year and the huskies went on to win their third straight state title.
First Half
Nothing on the board in the first half, that is until WA is awarded a penalty kick and Miguel Magana slides one right past Jason Barba to open up scoring 1-0 West Aurora.
But just two minutes later Christian Romano using all his might with the throw in that eventually connects with Cesar Recendez’s head and then the back of the net to even up the game at 1 apiece.
North on the offensive again with under two minutes to play in the first half. Zach Smith with the short pass over to Alex Barger who rockets one in for the Huskies to take the lead 2-1 going in to half time.
Second Half
46th minute, West Aurora’s Zach Thompson with the corner kick. The play goes according the plan as Monoj Chuwan is the one to knock it in to even the game up once more at 2s.
Huskies looking to regain the lead once more as they surge down the field. Alex Barger sends a leading cross pass to Patrick Koenig, who in stride just boots the ball to the back of the net. What a lengthy goal to put the huskies once more in the lead.
With just a minute left in the game, North’s Christian Romano and Was Zach Thompson fight for the ball, resulting in a penalty being called on the huskies, awarding the Blackhawks a penalty kick.
Migual Magana winds up at the line as Jason Barba goes the opposite way of the ball for the Blackhawks to even up the game at 3 apiece and we head to overtime.
And in overtime, the huskies repeat history as Ty Konrad leaves the ball for Zach Smith to scoop up, and he sends one airborne right into the goal for Naperville North to continue their post season in overtime, 4-3. The huskies advance to play Morton in the Super Sectionals on Tuesday.
