Averaging 51 points a game during a three-game winning streak, North Central traveling to Elmhurst. The Bluejays in a down year – struggling with a 1-6 record. Cardinals enter 6-1 with just 3 games remaining.
First quarter
Bluejays receiving to start the contest and the Cardinal defense pinning its ears back – Elmhurst hands to Treston Womack but Bryan Beauchamp stands that man up! Gain of just one and it leads to a three and out.
North Central’s first drive and on third down, Broc Rutter finding his junior tight end, Tyler Egan – and that’ll move the chains.
Both tight ends getting action early, fellow junior Alex Rose is the target on this throw over the middle – and 84 finds paydirt. 34 yard score but the PAT is missed
Alright, second go for the Bluejays… but… well, similar result. Jake Tahaney is flushed from the pocket and doesn’t get far. Tommy Hyland putting the clamps down on him. Second straight three and out.
Moments later and Rutter turns and hands to Greenfield – and after 200 yards rushing against Carthage, he’s picking right up where he left off. 24 yards after bouncing it to the outside. He’d end the drive with a 5-yard plunge.
Third drive for the jays going much like the first two. Tahaney stepping up and out of the pocket and into the waiting arms of Ben Wong. The linebackers leveling the Elmhurst signal caller.
Next possession for NCC and it’s a methodical, 12 play – 74 yard drive that is capped by Rutter finding Kamienski on the corner fade and the duo strikes again – 13th time this season – 20-0 NCC’s advantage.
Second quarter
And that starts a barrage of touchdowns – starting the second quarter, Rutter rolls right and bee-bees it to Kamienski again! 14th touchdown for the pairing – and North Central leads 27-0 very early in the second half
Defense forcing another quick three and out – and then… well, here comes Ethan Greenfield again! 23 yard catch and run – then picks up 28 more on the ground on the following play.
Finishing off the drive, Broc Rutter audibles – and you’d think he’s signaling to Kamienski – but his target is actually Nic Rummel! Second collegiate touchdown and it has NCC up 34-zip with 8:30 to play in the 2nd quarter.
Three minutes later and the Cardinals once again knocking on the goal line – this time it’s Greenfield on the carry – second touchdown on the day – buck-82 and a pair of tuddies for the sophomore.
Next Elmhurst drive and – they don’t go three and out – but they do fumble. Beauchamp rips it out and Tyler Rich coming up with it.
Rutter then finding Blake Williams on the quick slant to take a 47-0 lead. Williams with 4 grabs for 43 yards and that score.
Cardinal defense continue to stymie the Elmhurst attack – the throw goes downfield – and it’s picked by Zach Butler!
Rutter then ends his 6 touchdown day by finding DeAngelo Hardy for the score – NCC moves to 7-1 with an 82-7 win, setting multiple conference records – such as passing touchdowns and points – and they still have two games left.
